Travel Excuses For Spending The Night Away From Home

* Flying? Driving? Train? Method of travel will have an impact on the way cover is laid out.  For our purposes here we’ll use Flying since it is the most difficult to fake properly but also provides they greatest amount of cover.

* Adding legitimacy is key.  At all cost try to avoid “Phantom Flights”.  Phantom flights don’t exist and should only be used in an emergency.  If they are checked on you’ll be screwed.  

Always search and make sure you’re on a “real” flight with real flight information such as flight number, gate numbers, arrival / departure times, airline codes, seat numbers, upgrades, baggage claim, etc. 

* Have an itinerary and make it available:  Most of the major airline carriers as well as travel sites will allow you to put together a trip and save the itinerary without making a purchase.  

Or they’ll allow you to place an itinerary on “HOLD” for usually up to 24hrs also without having to purchase it.  

This is usually good enough as a print out for the sake of cover.  Leave it lying about or just send it to whoever you’re deceiving.   It adds a layer of legitimacy to your cover.    You won’t need physical tickets as proof since you’ll be getting your E-ticket at the airport.  Add mock Hotel & Rental Car reservations to the itinerary as well. 

* A step further is if you’ve ever printed any legit E-ticket online you can, if you were so inclined, save that PDF or image and then doctor it later to suite a future “outdoors” flight.   

BY NO means attempt to cross any airport security zones and board an actual plane with a fake/doctored boarding pass.  If so you will find yourself detained, arrested,   and possibly sent to a terrorist camp.  

For the novelty of deceiving your friends, spouse, employer, etc as to your intended whereabouts it’ll do just fine.

* Getting to the airport:  Preferred methods are driving yourself there or being dropped off.  If you drive yourself there then leave your car in airport parking.  The overnight time stamped & dated receipt does wonders for your cover. 

Getting dropped off by a corroborative party also adds value to your cover.  Last choice, if you must then take a cab there. 

* While at the Airport:  If you need to dip into your legitimate cash for a little extra funding, this is the time to do it.   Your statement will show a cash withdrawal from an ATM within the airport on the time & date of your flight. 

Further legitimizing your whereabouts and can be explained as pocket money for the trip.  Also it’s a great time to make some “pre-flight” calls.   Walking through the airport with the noise of the people, the overhead announcements, it all adds layers of legitimacy to your cover.  

While on the phone stop and ask an employee which way to “gate whatever”?  All part of the cover.

* Leaving the Airport:  Depending on where you’re shacking up or crashing that night your Hotel may have free shuttle service from the airport.  

Or you can always grab a cab or have someone from your hidden life entourage pick you up. 
* Rental car:  If funding permits, why not rent a car?  This allows for the greatest amount of flexibility & mobility. 

Should you have to spring into action and change locations at a moment’s notice this is your best bet.    The less inconspicuous the vehicle the better.   Sure that red Ferrari is kinda Money, but you need to stay below the radar. 

This does not mean go and get the cheapest sub compact possible.   A nice, dark, SUV is always the best choice.  It’ll blend in well, doesn’t cause attention, can fit your entourage & conquests, and if necessary take alternate off road paths.  The airport will have on premise rental car lots or shuttles to them. 

* Last option & also the most risky (and not recommended) is taking your own car.  If you must do this make sure your going to be headed somewhere directly like your hotel and not moving it from there again till you “land”. 

Best if the hotel parking is concealed as well.   Make sure to deactivate any automatic toll devices as this would be a dead giveaway should the billing be examined. 

Make extra sure to not break the speed limit, roll a stop sign, or any other infraction that could get you pulled over and issued a citation.   This places you in town when you clearly aren’t suppose to be there.  

Take a few extra precautions like eliminating any specific decals, parking passes, ornaments etc (if possible).   Another good cover up is getting your hands on a dealer or temporary license plate if possible.   

This will further mask your vehicle if it’s spotted.  Again, don’t get pulled over!
* Hotel Choice:  This is an important decision as well.  Convenience dictates this is where you’re shacking up, where your party is at, or where you’re after party/shack-up can be at.  If budget allows, always shoot for a 4 stars or greater hotel/resort.  

This choice isn’t just for the extra pillows & lux amenities.  An important factor is privacy.  Before making reservations call the Hotel and ask to speak to the manager on duty.  Pose as the assistant of a Celebrity or high profile person.  

Let them know how important your client’s privacy is and ask what the policy for not revealing guest information is.  Also ask if they can be listed under an alias so that those “in the know” may contact them.  

Any respectable establishment knows the drill and will take this process in stride.    Thank them for the info then call back later and follow the procedure for yourself. 

* Stick to domestic locations.    Unless really traveling outside the country, stick to domestic sites for fake travel.  International “Outdoors” requires a whole lot more work into building a cover. 

For instance your passport will be stamped when you enter the foreign country and again when you return to your home country.  This is un-fakable proof that I strongly suggest not even attempting in this day and age. 

The way your phone rings.  In the US & Canada when someone is calling your cell phone. It will ring a certain way.  However when your in Europe it will ring in a different way. 

If attempting an international outdoors make some test calls first so as to be sure the ringer will sound correctly.  Not saying this can not be faked, however it is very difficult and has proven unreliable.

* Time Zones.  Be extremely Mindful of this fact at all times.  If you’re in Los Angeles and you are fake traveling to New York remember it is 3 hours later in NY.  

A good rule of thumb is to set your wrist watch or cell phone to the supposed time.   Best if you have both the wrist watch & the cell phone.  This way you can keep one device on each time zone for quick reference.  

Many cell phone apps exist these days that can do this for you as well.  However I find the wrist watch – cell phone combo the quickest and easiest method.
